Okay, I was realizing the other day that I seek out different types depending on my emotional state. (For reference, I'm a female INTJ)
For instance, when I'm stressed out and frustrated from a long day of having to deal with idiots, I generally call or start a text conversation with my female ESFP friend. She is very intelligent, and usually has a lot going on, so I like to talk to her because she diverts my attention onto lighter topics and is an easy talker. She'll just talk, and I'll listen, soaking up all the things that she's telling me about people and relationships. When I'm done talking to her, I feel much better; not more energized, exactly, but a bit lighter. Talking to her is easy because she likes talking, and she doesn't stay on any one topic for very long, which is soothing to me when I'm unhealthily focused on bad things.
When I'm feeling scholastic, like I want to have a deep conversation, I am usually drawn to my female INFJ friend, or my male INTJ friend. The INFJ tends to like to discuss spiritual things or complex relationships, and you can learn a lot from what she says and the way she says it. She also has excellent emotional insight into situations that I often do not have. The INTJ is more of an idea-discusser, which is incredibly refreshing - discussing politics, theology, history and writing in a mutually educational way, and providing solid factual support.
When I'm sad, I always go to my INTJ dad. He is rarely sad, and always has something interesting or humorous to say. He'll remind me that life isn't about me, and that the most effectual life is that of a producer, and I never go away from a conversation with him without having solidified one of my principles, or learned something new.
When I'm happy, I like to spend time with my ISFJ brother. He's always got a story or a joke, and is very protective and supportive. We mesh very well, using our bond of family and similar ideals to share our differing perspectives in a purposeful manner. He loosens me up, and brings me down to earth.
So yeah - I'd love to know what kind of personality types you guys are drawn to in different situations.
