Work In progress-not complete.
When under stress, excitement, or periods of depression, people have a tendency to fall under a loop. (If they don’t fall into the grip.) Loops are where someone stops using their second and fourth, or more rarely, their first and third functions, and instead relies on the feedback from their other (generally weaker) functions, and loops from one to the other and knocks their trusty sidekicks out of the way.
For instance, I’m ENTJ. My ‘normal’ loop is Te-Se, and by ‘secondary loop’ is Ni-Fi. My Te-Se loop knocks my trusted sidekick Ni out of the way, and without it, I’m lost.
What each type looks like in the loop:
INTJs in a Ni-Fi loop
Begin wondering why they’re under emotional stress. They start becoming paranoid and worried about future possibilities. They’ll want to find patterns, but since their Te is weak, they bypass it and go right to Fi, therefore making them emotionally unstable. Ni, which is their most trusted function, goes crazy since Te isn’t there to ground it and check the facts. Instead, Ni begins spewing useless and irrational ideas, and Fi takes them to extreme emotional lengths. Even worse, Se may make some useless and distracting background noise, causing yet more confusion.
INFPs in a Fi-Si loop
Fi begins considering all the emotional mistakes, and Si keeps Fi trapped in the past and unable to consider any future possibilities or new ideas, since Ne is nowhere to be found. If Te makes any noise, it’s just to say that Si is right, and Fi gets stressed and worried because they suddenly have a weird dependence on their only logic remaining, Te. Since both Fi and Si are introverted, they often become reclusive and constantly relive past moments and wish they could change what they said or did.
INFJs in a Ni-Ti loop
Making not-very-accurate assumptions using limited data. They zoom in on one aspect of the situation and don’t consider contextual (Se) or emotional (Fe) clues. Often they also become bitter to those around them, despite the fact they also often feel quite lonely. They keep jumping to conclusions without actually proving anything works.
INFJs in a Fe-Se loop
Needing immediate sensory results. Extreme shopping, cleaning, eating (Se) all the while wanting social reassurance (Fe). They don’t analyze why they feel this way, or look for reasons or clues as to how it started or how to stop it. They can’t reanalyze the situation and have no way to long term plan.
INTPs in a Ti-Si loop
Often become very nostalgic about the past (Si) and continue analyzing and reanalyzing it (Ti.) Looking for whatever bit of data they missed in the past. However, this is not always the case: some INTPs are just stuck ‘inside their own comfort zone.’ They stop looking for interpersonal connections (Fe) and lose interest in interpersonal harmony. They think that their own solutions and thoughts are the final say and answer to everything, and not looking for new answers in the external world. (Ne)
ENTPs in a Ne-Fe loop
Typically socially anxious and/or impulsive. Ne thinks of bad future possibilities/loses sight of reality, and Fe worries about them. They also become very outcome oriented. They put a higher than usual value on emotions and the outside world and act narcissistic. Despite being extroverted functions, they often act introverted when in a loop, mulling things over using Ne and Fe (especially what they think other’s opinions are of them).
ISFPs in a Fi-Ni loop
Feeling like life is meaningless, and then can’t connect with others and do anything useful. They begin overanalyzing situations, worrying about long term (Ni) and keep thinking about their feelings and being unable to act in the moment because of the possible emotion implications (Fi). They also become very stuck in the moment and unable to process any new information from others, focusing only on their opinions and becoming sensitive to criticism from others. (Fi)
