Grips
When someone is under extreme stress for a long duration of time, depressed, mentally unstable, extremely tired and/or pressured, they can fall ‘in the grip’. Grips are where one function (typically the fourth) takes control of the so called ‘car’ (your brain) and starts making choices using that function. Spoiler alert: It isn’t pretty. At all.
Here is a brief overview of what each type looks like in the grip:
EXTJ [Fi]
Prone to extreme emotional outbursts. They feel like they can’t comply with the expectations of society, or meet any deadlines. Worrying about their feelings and feeling like the ‘victim’.
EXFJ [Ti]
Passive aggressiveness intensifies. May become stuck on one little detail and unwilling to see the whole picture. Also become negative, independent, and very grumpy. They actually think before they speak.
ESXP [Ni]
Becomes paranoid about invisible sabotage and goes against their natural happy-go-lucky nature. Serious and angsty. Clinging to their own ideas and theories, and forming incorrect interpretations of meaning.
ENXP [Si]
Become very self-doubtful and wishy washy. Begin to question their own logic and reasons. They also complain about the people around them and their faults, blowing things out of proportion. Sticking with what they know to be true in the past, and remarkably quiet for once.
IXTP [Fe]
Get loud and start shouting at others because they believe their opinion is right, even if it isn’t logic based. They complain to no end. Often their self-esteem suffers, despite the fact they can become uncharacteristically sociable.
IXFP [Te]
Become very stubborn and convinced their opinion is right. Very confrontational and organized, and much more rigid and less caring that normal. They react fast without thinking about the little facts, often becoming cynical.
INXJ [Se]
Stress eating, binge Netflixing, and may become thrill seekers. Wanting something that will make the world around them nice instantly. Focusing obsessively on the external world, and trying to control situations. They also begin anticipating the worst in a situation.
ISXJ [Ne]
Will attack those whoever’s opinions they don’t agree with. They also become very indecisive, worry about what might happen in the future, and negative. Wanting to explore weird theories and ideas. They feel like they can’t absorb any details or facts.
Any questions or corrections, just ask.
